Took us by surprise, amazing food! This is a GREAT little seafood place! Not stuffy fancy dining, down-home & casual with great oysters & seafood! Another shout out for April, had read other great reviews & we happened to get her, she rocks! Hubby loves oysters but rarely finds them done really well raw, he said these were some of the best he'd ever had. I'm from Seattle, so I'm critical of 'fish & chips', especially cod. This was top-notch! Thick cod filet, flaky, and crispy outside, perfectly fried with no gummy batter. The hushpuppies were also fantastic, not too greasy & great balance of sweet onion flavor without being like cake. Fried shrimp for the kids was tasty, medium sized shrimp & tasted fresh. Coleslaw crispy & not swimming in sauce. Its a small place, so go early to wait less time for a seat, especially in busy weekends.

Someone previously commented the raw oysters were "warm" and didn't think they were fresh; to the contrary these oysters were from the tank and freshly shucked. Yes not ice cold, but what if anything ever, "fresh" is served ice cold? The oysters are very good, small but are worth the value at $13/doz. I also had the She crab soup which was good, albeit has an unexpected hint of Nutmeg which was unique, not particularly my favorite but the soup was cream based, consistent and not split, and hearty. We also shared the scallops wrapped in bacon, baked loaded potato, and crab cake. The scallops and bacon, more so the scallops themselves, were delicious. I am a big fan of scallops and bacon but these in my opinion, were better separate from the bacon. They were perfectly cooked, fresh and not rubbery. The baked potato was meh, but what would one expect for that. It was obviously microwaved, however "loaded" appropriately that the spud itself was still identifiable in the mix. The crab cake was griddled and had a bit of grissle on the outside, but was real, and house made. It was good with the spicy Aoli. Staff interactions were good. Sitting at the bar, even with only one or two seats available, he was attentive and checked in on us regularly. Also very confident in answering questions about the menu on the spot. All in all we will come back again, if not just for the oysters alone. This place is the definition of laid back so don't feel you need to dress up. The seats at the bar are captains chairs from boats with a nice elbow rest. The steam kettle station at the bar was nice to watch as well.

I only came for the oysters....which were average at best. Very small and frankly sad looking. I didn't even finsh them all. I assume the fried food is a lot better to warrant the reviews. But for an oyster bar...they really need to get a lot better oysters. Very disappointing. On the flipside, the have a nice local crowd, a lovely waitress/bartender and good drinks.

Let me start with saying, it was $70 for three people eating lunch. That's disappointing to say the least. The place is exactly what you'd expect for a beach dive restaurant in decor and atmosphere. We started with the hot crab dip, which was delicious but hardly worth the $12. I ordered raw oysters on the half shell, for $13, they were delicious but small. However. They were served with fresh horseradish. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp po' boy, and for $15, it was way overpriced, yet very tasty and fresh. His daughter ordered the fish n chips, which again, was tasty but not worth $16. The fries were fresh and crispy, though. Overall, it's a dive with tourist prices. The food was good, but not fantastic and certainly not worth the inflated prices.

One of my favorites in Myrtle Beach from our trip. Appetizer wise we had the hot crab dip and hush puppies. Both were delicious, hush puppies are best I've had. Then for my meal I chose the fish and chips. They were great, I chose fries which weren't anything special but still worth getting the dish. Love the bar stools and eclectic feel.

Love this place. This is our second time here. My sister and I shared the steam pot and it is delicious and certainly plenty of food for 2. We'll be back next year!

We like to go to places off the beaten path when traveling and based on the reviews here we thought we had a winner based on the reviews. We should have known things were off when at 7:00 pm on a Saturday night we were able to park by the door and immediately were seated. We ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell and had to send them back for being warm. It was evident they were sitting out for a good while. The steam pot was good but we had a better one at another in town. The server was very nice and took good care of us. Just wished we went somewhere else.

My family and I had a great meal at Rockefeller's! The waitress was very attentive and the manager or owner continually stopped by our table to check that everything was good. The seafood is truly the highlight of this place. All fresh and well prepared. We will be back for sure!

Used to stop in here years ago. Made a stop at happy hour while waiting to pick up kids and girlfriend at Barefoot. Happy hour oysters were as good as I remember. Had a dozen and an order of buffalo shrimp. Saw a couple doing the oyster shooters. God woulda loved to have one of them!!! Keep up the good work guys.

  • Sheri S.

Great happy hour with .55 oysters! Server was super helpful on how to eat the children and steamed oysters! Love this place!

Excellent. This was recommended by some locals and they sure knew what they were talking about. Probably the best food from the entire vacation across 7 states. Great staff, excellent seafood.

  • Victoria N.

Definitely go during happy hour (4-6pm). Hushpuppies are delicious and come 16 in a basket for 4$. Po boys are ginormous but don't have TOO much oysters on it.

Another one of those cool, casual, locals kinda dive seafood joint! This place is nothing to look at on the outside, maybe even a tad sketchy, but notice all the cars in the lot! I've been to this place over the years and it never seems to disappoint! The entrees are all very fresh seafood and reasonable for the fact you are getting fresh seafood. I love their shrimp fixed every way that they offer! The hush puppies are fantastic, as well as the crab cakes! I'm not a oyster person, but people come here in mass for the raw oyster bar experience. So that being said, I'd highly recommend them! This is super casual, so if you come in t-shirts and shorts, or swim wear after being on the beach, you'll fit right in. The bar is quite large, and a added touch is the bar stools are made out of old boat captain chairs! Steer clear of all the seafood buffets and try a locals joint like Rockefellers! Don't expect much though in the courtesy of the staff and ownership. I've yet to have a good experience from either the wait staff or owners that work the raw bar. Almost rude or just seem bothered by you most of the time. But as long as the food is great, I can always counter that by the tip! Enjoy!!

This is probably one of the best places to eat at the beach. My wife and I was there the first week of September. We were there for happy hour the first night. Oysters were awesome. Shrimp super fresh. We ventured out to little river the next night and had a terrible experience. We found ourselves. leaving and made our way back to rockefellers. Wound up staying there for a few hours. All the staff were super friendly and made us feel right at home. We ate there 3 more times that week. Total of 5 times in a week. Bottom line is why go anywhere else when perfect ton is waiting for you at Rockefellers. Thank you Amy, April Mike and Charlie for making a us feel so welcome and taking such time to make us feel a home with your superior customer service. We will forever be your visiting locals. Jack and Lisa

10 stars!? Best seafood in NMB. Hands down. No frills..awesome food! Great service, go friendly staff,,and a great bar. Can't say enough about this place. Not cheap, though! Be prepared to drop some change, but it's well worth it!

  • Cheryl L.

Wow. Never again. The bartender was so rude. If you don't want people to come in late in evening then don't stay open. We had oysters and 2 drinks. They aren't fresh shucked because the came out of the kitchen in 20 seconds. We were ready to order more food but paid our check and got the hell out. If you like being verbally abused, then this is your place!!!

  • Mike R.

Great environment! Not that fastest service, however, the steamed clam, shrimp, crawfish and oysters were spot on! Went with a total of four people and had a fun experience.

  • Erin C.

Not a great beer selection. At happy hour fat tire is $4.75. Oysters were small. $.55 each at happy hour. Hush puppies were good $4. Good service.

  • Ann C.

Fun time sitting at the bar. Liked the oysters Rockefeller! The grouper was good quality and the shrimp over pasta was delicious

  • Dana M.

Loved this place. It is a dive and has probably not been remodeled since the 70s but the food is delicious! The oysters were huge, fresh and reasonably priced. We had oysters at another spot this week that were twice the price and half the size. Service was great and friendly. Our kids loved the mussels and the hush puppies. They advertise great happy hour deals but we missed that. Highly recommend if you like dive bars with good food!

  • Allison C.

The prices were reasonable for fresh seafood. Everyone in our party of 9 was happy with their food. The service was excellent! Our waitress was bubbly and efficient. The food didnt come out all at once, but it wasn't too much longer before everyone received their entree. There was also a kitchen dispute which leaked into the bar area and was a little awkward. We were happy with our experience overall.

  • Dimitri M.

The waitress I had was very nice and the food did not take long to get to my table. I throughly enjoyed the cheeseburger I ordered and would buy it another time. I heard the shrimp was also great. My sisters however were very appalled by the fact that right when you enter this restaurant you are greeted by a claw machine with live lobsters inside.

  • Eddie L.

Definitely a local hot spot and glad we stumbled upon it! Don't let he outside appearance fool you. The freshest non fried seafood you will find. Oysters, shrimp, Crab cakes, scallops and kettle pots were all done excellent. We will be going back!

  • Bethany M.

Great food/great service! I just love this place. We are a family of 5 (6 yr, 5 yr, 1 yr old). I was skeptical when we drove up, but the inside had so much personality. They sat us at a nice big table (important when a 1 yr old grabs at everything), and there was a ton of TVs everywhere. Food: started off with hush puppies (yummie), she crab soup (different than traditional but still good), oysters (good). Dinner: I got the blackened grouper (delish!), my husband had the seared tuna, and my kids had the mac-n-cheese. They all liked their food. I like supporting the local mom & pop establishments. No wait line, food was delicious, wait staff great. Highly recommend!

We have been coming to Rockefellers for several years now and usually eat here a few times every year when we visit Myrtle Beach. After trying many of the raw bars in the area, It has become our favorite. So why am I only giving 2 stars? Well, this past trip we ate here 3 times over the course of a week. Those 3 times were great. The oysters were fresh, the shooters were amazing, bartender and wait staff were friendly. But we were supposed to eat there 4 times. On a Tuesday night at 10:00 we phoned to ask what time they were open until. They said 11:00 and we told them we would be there shortly. We promptly began our one mile walk to the restaurant and arrived at 10:30...... only to find that the doors were locked. We then called the restaurant again and asked why they were closed when we had just called to verify the would be open. The staff member who answered the phone said "Well, now we are closed" and repeated it again after I told him we had just walked a mile specifically to come here. There were still people in the restaurant eating! Are you serious man?? You don't want to stay open for 30 more minutes for a bill that would have been at least $60? You guys must have more money than you know what to do with. Yes it is the off-season, but you can't just ignore your posted hours - especially when you KNOW someone is on their way. This experience won't stop me from going there in the future, but it certainly puts a dent in their reputation, at least in our minds.... and the closing at 11:00... that is absurdly early for a bar to be closing anyway. We are learning toward Duffy's as our new favorite.

Here on vacation and wow this is one of the best places I've been in South Carolina. Decent happy hr but the food is sooo good it makes up for the pricey "happy hr" apps. Had the fish and chips....it was out of this world good. The only reason y I didn't give this place a perfect rating is becuz of the cunt bartender named Seth. This guy was such a cock he almost ruined my time here. Really cocky and arrogant. I asked how much the oysters where before moving to a table and his reply was "I transferred it onto another check. Ull see it than". Really? REALLY? You can't answer a simple question, really gotta be a dick about it? And did I say he was arrogant? (Found out later he's the owners son soooo I guess he was one of those over privileged spoiled little shits, even standing 6"8' or whatever he is) Other than that douche bag I had a wonderful time here. When I actually got a table with my family our waitress was amazing. Def gonna recommend this to friends and family when they come here to visit.....just watch out for captain dip shit behind the bar. He's a real cunt

Had a sampling of appetizers. Oysters Rockefeller, fried oysters, grouper fingers, a cup of she crab soup and a cup of New England clam chowder. Everything was wonderful. April was our waitress and she was pleasant and knowledgeable about every thing. We will definitely go back.

  • X D.

Amazing staff and service (seriously, great and accommodating), fresh food and well cooked. I highly recommend the clam chowder or she crab soup (which had a surprising sweetness to it. Different and quite delicious). We really enjoyed our time there and look forward to returning, which will probably be later in the week.

We have been here numerous times and it has always been great. Small but the food is good. Basically seafood grilled, blackened or fried. They have steam pots (pricey) with lobster, corn, potatoes and sausage. They have really good fettuccine prepared different ways.

  • Jeff K.

Don't go here.. subpar food. Bad service. Ordered calamari and raw oysters to start. Calamari was way to salty and over breaded (to make up for the lack of meat) oysters were room temp and not fresh. Split a golfers special and she crab soup with my wife. The golfers special was absolutely NOT special. Scallops did not taste fresh, mussels weren't bad, Dame with the shrimp. But the pasta was over cooked and the sauce was watered down and tasted like garlic butter water... She crab soup was good. Kids had fish and chips and pasta. Both average at best. Long story short I ended up paying $90 for disappointment. Hard pass on this one guys..

Well, with thousands of restaurants to choose from, this is one that will not be getting a return visit. This place had three of our pet peeves: over priced, not getting drink refills and servers not checking on you shortly after the food arrives. Our glasses were empty from before our food arrived and they were never refilled. Ordered fish and chips, batter was not cooked all the way through and we left a big glob of nastiness on the plate which the waitress just ignored, the fries were gray, limp, and soggy. The she crab soup was okay but grainy. There was something indiscernible in the fried oysters that couldn't be chewed and I really don't want to think about this large, strange lump I had to spit on to my plate. When we finally had had enough and we asked our waitress if there was a locals discount, she looked at me as if I was an alien and said "uh, no" and walked away. I guess in a tourist area you can get away with this type of bad service and even worse food. We will stick with the better locals places that are friendlier, with better service and that have more reasonable prices.

The ONLY thing decent about this experience was the seafood itself (mussels, scallops, shrimp.) The wine and butter sauce was bland and watery without seasoning or herbs. Dry bread was served on the side; they couldn't even be bothered to toast it. Service was slow although honestly I wouldn't have cared if the food had been excellent. Mussels take minutes to steam and angel hair takes no more than 7 minutes to cook so what were they doing? We went at 3:00pm and no one was even in the restaurant. Their kids meals are ridiculously priced for the quality and the execution. They served watery Mac and cheese straight from a box with absolutely no sides for $4. There wasn't even the option of adding fruit or veggies. Why do restaurants think that we want bad quality food for our kids? I don't even serve this to my kids at home. I'm upset because I checked so many sources for best seafood in Myrtle and this place is listed on so many. But even if my mussels were good, that is not to the credit of this restaurant. Needless to say I won't be going back.

LOVED every bit of this restaurant! The bar was good - get there during happy hour (4-6) for shrimp and crab specials! The oyster Rockefeller were huge and delicious! The steam kettle shrimp were amazing!! Old bay and beer or wine and garlic herb with cheese.

  • D M.

Best scallops I have ever had! Mussles, corn on the cob, shrimp, pasta....soooo good. It is a hole in the wall and obviously a local hangout/bar but still very kid friendly. It just works. Our family of four will be back!

  • Thuy H.

Came here for HH and thought we were getting good deals until food started coming out. We ordered a dozen oysters, steamed shrimp, and crawfish. Oysters - I was eating shell most of the time. I felt like I was going to crack my teeth open for how poorly the opened all the oysters. And the meat in each was so meek. It was barely the size of my pinky finger. I did get some good pieces but the majority of it made the whole thing unappetizing. Shrimp - We ordered this off the HH menu and I believe it was $7 or $8 (I forget). We thought we were going to get a nice basket size esp bc it was on the HH menu. OMG were we completely dissapointed! A tiny plate (like the size of the plate that goes under a tea cup) came out with 7 or 8 shrimp on it. The shrimp was so small. I paid $1 for a shrimp!!!!!! WTF is that?!?!?! That is unexcusable. What a waste of money. It wasn't even good. Crawfish - it was ok. The crawfish came out of the shell easily so that was a plus, but it lacked flavor and I could tell they were frozen and not fresh. They do not deserve 4 stars!

  • Audra R.

Great service and food!! Fresh seafood. The grouper sandwich and oysters (on half shell and fried) were delicious. The fries were homemade and fresh!!! Yum!! Small place but great food!!

The food was amazing! We ordered the buffalo shrimp for an appetizer and the country boil for meal. Best hot crab legs I have ever eaten! Definitely recommend!

  • Godivarc G.

We haven't been here in awhile and we're excited to come. We were extremely disappointed, our appetizer was not the same crap dip as really salty and changed portion size. They messed up our scallops asked for broiled and they come out blackened. So we had to send them back, second time scallops came out partially raw. They charge extra for house salad, and extra dressing is .50 more which I think is nickeling dimming a customer. But I guess everyone needs to make money, I definitely won't go back anymore.

Paid this place a visit last night. Great oysters and blackened grouper fingers. We drive past Rockafellas every time in MB. No more. Will eat here whenever in MB.

Any time I make it to the beach this is a must do. In a area full of greasy seafood buffets this smaller place stands out head and shoulders. They will offer great fried seafood but their steam kettles are an absolutely fantastic and a welcome change of pace. They do have one secret weapon in getting me to come back time and time again-Chumbo. It is a half gumbo half chowder mix and is amazing. I don't come in without at least having a cup. Again, in a world of tourist traps this is a locally owned, high quality, full of character restaurant.

We ate at this local establishment last night. Sadly we cannot support the 4 star average. The place was busy, but I don't know why. The fried pickle appetizer, which the waitress said was "specially seasoned" by the cook, was way too tart to be enjoyable. The crab dip was very fishy tasting, almost tasted more like tuna. As for the entrees, the shrimp and grits had pieces of burned sausage in it with the broth also tasting somewhat burned. The seafood platter my wife had was barely blackened as she requested and overlooked and dry. The munchie basket our friend had was not very fresh tasting. She did not enjoy hers either. Our other friend had the fish and chips. It was his first experience with seafood and he said that the chips were very good. But that's about all he could say. In the end, with a $100 plus bill, we were very disappointed with our meal. No plans to return.

Good steampots/boils of fresh seafood along with cold beer. Would be nice to have some local microbrews available, but the food is good with any cold beer.

First time in Myrtle Beach, and this place sweetened up the experience. The food was great. I came with a party of 4 and we ordered fried oysters and the taste was great. But I think what I should be commenting on is the service they provoded here. It was really superb and waitress that served our table was really lively and let us have a good time there.

Me and my Dad were looking for an oyster bar to go to in Myrtle Beach. We looked on Yelp and this was the closest place with the best reviews. We went during happy hour, which is Monday-Friday from 4-6pm. From the outside, this place looks something like a dive bar where Mobsters might hang out. It's poorly lit, and we had to circle the place twice to find the door. There are no windows, only a wooden vent area with wide slats to see in. Walking in, we were immediately greeted by a claw game machine filled with water and live lobsters. Apparently for $2, you can win a lobster to bring home. The inside is warm and cozy, and just a little bit more lit than the outside. There are TVs all over the walls playing ESPN. The decor is nautical themed, as most restaurants are in Myrtle Beach. There is a nice wall mural that shows the different depths of the ocean. We sat down at the bar in soft seats that were the same style as those on a boat. The bartender was a nice, outgoing man that immediately tended to us. The service was great, and he constantly checked on us all night, all though they weren't terribly busy. We ordered a dozen raw oysters, fried calamari, 7 steamed clams with old bay seasoning, and the hot crab dip. I've never had raw oysters, and I wanted to try them. They were very good, although there wasn't a TON of meat on each one. There were some fragments of the shell in each one, but it didn't bother me. The calamari was excellent. Very crisp, and the breeding was light, but enough to hold onto the calimari. The portion size was huge, and me and my day split it. It was served with a homemade marinara dipping sauce. The steamed clams were also very good. There were 7 freshly steamed clams swimming in a broth with a plethora of spices. Taken by itself on a piece of bread, it was very salty, but it was a perfect accent to the clams. Last was the Hot Crab Dip. We heard about it from the bartender, who was describing it to another customer. He said that they had many people who have offered to buy the recipe. Having huge expectations, I was a little disappointed. The crab had somewhat of a fishy taste, seeming more like tuna than crab. Nevertheless, it was still pretty good. All of the items that we ordered were very good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere itself is worth paying for. We will definitely be back.

Place was good, good food and great service. Good atmosphere and Tv's with football everywhere. Menu was pricey and items were small serving sizes. Really wish they had crab legs in more quantity and for less price, 37$ for 3 crab leg sets is not fair

Used to have a GREAT happy hour with plenty of discount (but still pricy) food options but they've shortened/changed it. Still great .55 cent oysters and the buffalo shrimp is 7 for $7.00 but not as great as it once was. Go for the oysters but leave your non-oyster friends at home unless you're wiling to dish the cash!

"Priddy" shrimp was amazing. We were trying to get them to give us the recipe. We also got the oysters on the half shell, the corn on the cob, the slaw, and oyster shooters. We enjoyed the food so much, we came back the next day for lunch. I highly recommend the crab cake. It was one of the best I've had. The oyster shooters were not our thing, but they were interesting so we had to try them. Friendly crew and comfortable atmosphere made it even better.

Solid 3 stars. The service was 5 stars. From the outside it doesn't really pull you in but it's worth the stop with all the terrible food spots around it. We got the oysters which were a little warm and the waitress took them back with no questions and brought back 12 more ice cold and they were great. The muscles were awesome too. The shrimp and grits was way off the traditional expectation but wasn't bad. Only complaint I have is how they left the tails on the shrimp. The kids meal of fried shrimp was fried with the tails still on and the shrimp and grits still had the tails on too. Now I hate to have to fish around my meal for all the shrimp and remove the tails. Kids kept getting shells in their bites too. Not sure if it was on purpose or out of laziness but it was a pain to eat like that. Without the tails I would have given it an easy 4 stars. The annoyance of the shells far overshadowed the taste of the meal. Again service couldn't have been better.

Amazing meal and super friendly staff. We ordered the oysters rockefellers as well as the scallops and bacon as appetizers. They were both amazing! I ordered the shrimp and grits and I must say, it was one of my all time favorite variation of that dish. I love NOLA and that dish could be served at any of New Orleans finest restaurants. The crab legs were tasty and meaty. Really really amazing meal here!

Ate here this evening with our family of four. We usually ate at one of the calabashs but last year was the final straw and refused to spend good money for a lousy meal. My 8 year old loves crawfish so we had to find a place that serves them and this place did. The food was excellent! We have a seafood platter with mussels, crawfish, king crab legs and of course the hush puppies. I have to comment also on the service as it was first class. There was always a server around to take care of our every need. Highly recommended at this time.

This place had great food and service!! We had a party of 8 adults and 4 children and everyone had something different. Each meal was delicious and the portions were generous. We thought maybe the food was a bit overpriced, thus the 4 stars. Food recommendations would be the shrimp steam pots with the old bay sauce and the wine and garlic sauce. Also" the raw oysters were huge and delicious! Lastly, hush puppies were very moist and flavorful!!

Mrytle Beach's secret. Well actually it's North Mrytle Beach on the corner of 37th street. I've been going there for around three years and the steamed oysters are now .55 cents each from 4 - 6 pm. Was cheaper in the past but like many great things price keeps climbing. It's worth it. The place has a lot of locals and the interior looks like an older beach bar scene, just what I like, laidback.

Excellent food. Jumbo coconut shrimps that were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Amazing she crab soup. We ordered the bowl and that was huge. Crab cakes diner wonderful. Broiled flounder very fresh and well seasoned. Service we ominous and prompt. Interior very casual.

You don't always feel like getting dressed in your finest to sit through a white tablecloth meal. And from the great service to the dark below-deck feel, this is exactly what we were in the mood for. We wanted a casual, neighborhood place where he could get his fried shrimp and hushpuppies plate, and I could get my crab legs. Mission accomplished. Our server was outstanding with genuine friendliness, a great sense of humour, and most importantly, taking the time to make sure our night was a success even though closing time was near. We enjoyed our experienceand can only assume that those who had negative experiences below must have caught them on an off-night.

After living off meager pickings of eggs and bacon in the fridge of our beach house, my friends and I finally ventured to get some quality seafood at a restaurant. The driver was specifically craving crawfish so we headed to Rockefellers and I am SO glad we did. Our group was a bit large so we had to break off into two tables. Five of my friends and I were seated at a taller table, which had an odd pole in the middle of the table but we were too hungry to wait for better seating. I had trouble deciding between the Asian tuna appetizer and the Hawaiian tuna entree but, at the waitress' recommendation, went with the Hawaiian. My friend, looking to blow a bit of money, decided to order the appetizer on top of his Golfer's special entree (an assortment of seafood served with two servings of pasta in Wine and Garlic Butter sauce) so I got to try both. The Asian tuna tasted great with the seaweed salad, though I have to say for $12, it was a bit pricey. I was much more satisfied paying two extra dollars for the Howie Hawaiian tuna, a large piece of tuna steak (cooked rare) served with pineapple salsa and spinach. The housemade salsa was AMAZING!!! I wish I knew how to duplicate the recipe because I could eat it with everything. I also tried a bit of my friend's grouper special and it was equally delicious. I normally don't cook with butter but hey, we were eating out and man do scallops with butter taste good. :) Overall, I loved the food but be warned that the menu is a bit pricey. Then again, you are paying for some good seafood so a few extra dollars is worth the experience!

It's a true delight to have hush puppies made by someone who understands the craft. Mine were a magnificent blend of onion flavor and soft fried amazing. The buffalo shrimp were large and bready but not over cooked. The chef went a little heavy with the Old Bay seasoning in the she-crab soup, but otherwise everything I tried was well prepared, flavorful and worth coming back for.

Best seafood in North Myrtle Beach! Great people! Excellent service! Everything was fresh, served quickly by attentive wait staff. The lobster steam pot was the tastiest food we've had all week. Don't get lost in the mass tourist food racket! Eat somewhere with local vibe...somewhere you'd frequent if you lived here! We'll be back!

This a cool neighborhood place we go to often when staying in Myrtle. Atmosphere is fun- the bar is lined with chairs that look like boat seats. You can try and catch a fresh lobster in the tank and the wooden floor feels like it holds a lot of history. Food is always good- fresh salads and delicious dressings. One lady has been there for years and brings such a cheerful spirit to the place with her smile and friendly attitude.

Yeah I'm dropping a 5 Star on 'Rocks. This would be my duece time at Rockerfellers. Both times...bombski. We were drawn back to 'Rocks for the Ghumbo...(Chower & Gumbo). Great combo in the same bowl. Also me and the wife were craving raw oysters. 45 cent raw oysters for happy hour...holla. We plowed them with lots of horseradish & there house cocktail. The wife doesn't like oysters except from here...i mean there raw oysters, can't do that much special. Well, I guess she says they clean them very well...touche to 'Rocks. Any who, we went for a little tapas style dinner for our group (7). Easily sat in comfort at the surf board table, that is raised higher than the others like a bar. We ordered, fried calamari, crab dip, and the hush-puppies. OHHH the hushpuppies were FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC. Served with honey butter, never before....ALWAYS after will I eat honey butter with hush-puppies. Sorry, Rockerfellers this is coming home with me and to be served in my restaurant...SpitfireZ. Enough of the self promotion. Rockerfellers = titties..plain and simple. Everything was great and we will be back, quick service, perfect prices, banging puppies. JEDI RECOMMENDS -only downfall...it said "Here we go Dallas" on the marquee.

Nice place. Very crowded little place, even around 830p, which is a good sign. Split the grouper fingers with martinis, both were pretty good. Bar had boat seats as stools, which was a creative touch. Not as quality, welcoming service as other local joints, so couldn't give a 4. I'd still recommend it, as the items coming outta the kitchen looked appetizing.

Service was very good even though our server was super busy. Steamed oysters were good although gritty - they should have been cleaned better. We ordered the fried oyster platter with the oysters lightly fried. Very good. Lots of oysters on the platter. We'd go back again.

This is our favorite place in the MB area. Always good food, good atmosphere and good service. I find it odd, some of the other reviews that are negative, you shouldn't walk into this place expecting a 5-Diamond restaurant but you get more than the outside suggests. Happy hour at the bar is a good time mixed with locals, we semi-locals and vacationers. Try the crab dip, fried or raw oysters or any entree as we have never been disappointed.

My group was a kinda large and we didn't have a reservation so we had to break off into two tables. Five of my friends and I were seated at a bar like high table while the rest of our group got a normal table. The place specializes in solid american seafood recipes. Lots of bakes and classic seafood recipes. I would say after an overall sampling of what all my friends got( a few got the Hawaiian tuna entree, one got the golfer's special, the other got the enormous 40 dollar bake) that the place's food is solid and pretty good. I would say it is worth a trip. Nevertheless, I was let down since the entree I wanted(pasta with Lobster Chunks) had sold out before 7pm. I had the same thing except with scallops, which were good.(the Scallops were quite well done and very moist/succulent) but I was let down just a bit. The pasta was just some typical linguine( a bit over cooked) and the scallops were covered in a white wine with garlic sauce.(imagine the same sauce that comes with clams and linguine or with Mussels). A tried and true recipe, I couldn't really complain. Overall I would rate this place a 4 star. The service is decent and ambiance was not important here. My own personal let down caused me to dock it a star. I would come here again next time I'm in North Myrtle though. It's not bad at all.

Rockefellers was a wonderful surprise. The decor is old and tacky but the excellent service and HOMEMADE food more than makes up for it. Please try the broiled shrimp. Total deliciousness!

When in town I have hard time picking between this place and another seafood place that is close (if you read my other Myrtle reviews you will see that place but it would be unfair to list here). I love the steam pots, steamed shrimp and anything when in season. The atmoshere is dated but food is good.

This is my new favorite restaurant in NMB. First off they have an awesome "claw" machine type game where you can pick up and win a lobster. We were lucky and won one. The atmosphere is very beachy and fun. The staff was on top of everything. The food was awesome. My wife got crab legs that was incredible- some of the best I have had in a long time and I got a combo plate with shrimp, grouper, and scallops. The shrimp and grouper were awesome and the scallops were above average. We did not save room or dessert but the peanut butter pie sounded delicious. We will make a point to come back here.

I went here with a few of my moms friends from the beach and we only had to stand for ten minutes but it's the beach so who cares. I started out with a dozen raw oysters and they were amazing. I would not recommend on sharing anything with someone because they will stiff you and not give you as much. I loved the environment and the wait staff is very good.

Came here for happy hour (4-7pm). 45 cent oysters on the half shell. $3.50 wines. cheap beers. food specials. This place looks dingier on the outside than it does on the inside. And the food is certainly better (cheap fresh oysters!) I don't advise coming here in large groups. The waitresses can't handle it and so my table got our food when the other tables were leaving. We only ordered from the happy hour menu as it didn't seem like a good deal ordering from the regular menu. I got calamari, crab cakes, and buffalo chicken to share. The large plate of calamari was nicely fried but lacked salt/flavor. Crab cakes (2) were good but didn't have large chunks of crab like in some nicer places. They also had a harder sear "shell" and they didn't give me ANY sauce to go with it... no tartar... no promised tomato puree... Buffalo chicken were just chicken fingers with hot sauce (not my favorite). Items were just under $6.50 for happy hour. I'd never eaten raw oysters, but my friend let me steal two. They were SO GOOD. Fresh with lemon juice and delicious horseradish on the side, not slimy or fishy. Too bad the waitresses took so long that I couldn't order my own. (Arrived at 6:15, ordered at 6:40, got food around 7) Another friend said the hush puppies were absolutely heavenly. And another liked the rockefeller wontons best. However, I noticed these looked more like tiny spring rolls than any wonton (of any culture) that i've ever seen....

I used to like this place...and now it is non-smoking...a huge plus... ...however....the last couple of times were just awful in terms of service and attitude....didn't bother eating...and the last time...left after a couple of sips. Young lady bartender was very sweet...but...the tall guy...seemingly an owner or manager...couldn't possibly have been any more dismissive....a true jerk to patrons....however....warmly greeted locals....apparently saving his disdain for the tourists.. The last time visiting....I asked about the beer selection....and why they did not have any local brews....or for that matter...why no "american craft" beers on tap. C'mon on...newcastle....smithwicks...guiness on tap.....there are much better regional american brews.... However I was told...american beers in the bottle....not really any selection whatsoever... I don't get these restaurants that treat tourists so poorly...I spend about 25% of my time in MB...eat out nearly every meal....and recommend places to others. Nice bartender...unpleasant owners. ....addendum.... go to Biminis instead for cheap seafood...excellent fresh (although not always local) oysters....and ....exceedingly nice staff !

Not gourmet, but simple food done really, really well. One of my friends had the broiled flounder, and another friend and I split a steam pot. Really fresh and tasty - and a great value, too.

What a hidden treasure! I would definitely rate this a 4.8 out of 5. The decor/ambience is quirky (in a good way). We loved the captains chairs at the bar and the blonde bombshell statue in the corner. Our server/bartender, Megan, was more than attentive. We could tell this place was good just by the flow of locals (some of whom were there just to see Megan). The drinks were great, and the food was very tasty. I had an oyster shooter (which I probably won't have again. I wasn't crazy about the beer/would rather have it with Bloody Mary mix), raw oysters, and coconut shrimp. My husband had the bacon wrapped scallops (served over a warm "Rockefeller" -esque bed of spinach which was a nice touch) and shrimp scampi (probably the first time he's had scampi where he didn't walk away reeking of garlic). We will definitely visit here again!

Can't believe I forgot about this place. First off, I have to admit sometimes it smells a little fishy. However, they have the post Chumbo (chowder and gumbo combined). It has a slight kick and I crave it at time. I didn't get the happy hour oysters one time and from what I remember they were good and small. Sorry, I like them on the smaller side. I dont want to have to bite an oyster in two and risk seeing what they look like on the inside. UGH !

  • Lyn B.

I thought the food was good but not great. The tall bartender with dark hair was just a jerk. He acted like we were invisible and just took his good old time getting anything we asked for, like a fork to eat with. Another reviewer called him dismissive. Exactly! We spent $90 at the bar and this dude should have gotten no tip IMO. WE WON'T BE BACK ROCKEFELLERS. Sorry but we like to enjoy ourselves when we go out.

when we first pulled up to this hole in the wall looking place, my spidey senses were tingling, telling me to go someplace else. I had hopes that this would be one of the "hole in the wall" type places that end up being awesome. sadly, this was not the case. to sum up, the food sucks, the service sucks. Read on for more detail. we walked in and ordered the she crab soup and hush puppies to start, the oysters and crab legs for later. the she crab soup had hardly any crab in it. The broth was thin (although flavorful) and the crackers served with it were mostly stale. The hush puppies were good, but i mean, how can you mess up hushpuppies?? The oysters were terrible. They smelled.... eh, not great, served in a plastic basket, with horse radish and cocktail sauce. they were mostly room temp or warmer and honestly, tasted and smelled as if I probably shouldn't be eating them. The crab legs were the fishiest tasting crab legs I have ever tasted and the drawn butter they were served with was an unsettling shade of neon orange. The service was SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. so so slow. after the crappy food, I just wanted to get out of there, but we had to wait, and wait, and wait, for our check. I was psyched to try this place after the reviews and especially since I was eager to try out a raw bar, but seriously, SKIP THIS PLACE!! unless you feel like possibly getting food poisoning. And then waiting around forever to pay for the privilege of contracting same.

Our group of seven were craving some fresh seafood when we stumbled upon this place. We even waited outside for 15 minutes waiting for them to open and we are so happy that we did. We were the only ones in the place for lunch so our waitress was very attentive, nice and helpful. My husband and I can't find good seafood near us so we decided to get a whole bunch of stuff: Oysters Rockafeller - spinach, bacon and fresh cheese Mussels - in garlic wine sauce Crabcake sandwich served with fries And a crab/stuffing thing served in the shell --- I forgot the name. For all of this it was only $40- which is quite a deal if you ask me because all of the food was so fresh and delicious! Our friends all ordered various other things and they all raved about how good they were Crawfish, shrimp, raw oysters and a few even ordered gigantic black and blue burgers. I wish they were closer to where we lived because we would definitely become regulars. They even have a happy hour with 45cent oysters which unfortunately we missed out on.... maybe next time! P.S. My husband was raving about the pickles so I asked if they sold them by the jar... apparently they are asked that a lot but can't make enough at a time to keep up with selling them in bulk.

Maybe happy hour is its claim to fame! The environment was appealing. The bar had a real "neighborhood" ambiance. The bartenders were friendly and alert. We accounted for two of the three patrons in the entire restaurant that night. Having heard from other locals that Rockefellers was a must-try, I finally made the trip a week ago. Sadly, my review here is but a rehash of a faded memory. Perhaps the best notation here is how I committed so little to memory. My crabcake sandwich with Rockefeller topping was blase. The topping overwhelmed the sandwich (probably a bad choice on my part). The taste was similar to Spinach Artichoke dip served everywhere. It came on a plain white hamburger bun, which broke apart from being stale. I crabcake was not big. The sandwich was way overpriced at $18. For an appitizer we had Blackened Fish Bites. They were heavily seasoned and had a bit of fishy smell and taste. I don't remember what my wife had, but I recall leaving thinking the value was inadequate. I think we had good beers on tap, probably two each (maybe Smithwick or Harp) and app and two sandwiches. With tip: $80. I remember paying that at Highland Tap for Blackened Filet with Crawfish Tails and Guiness XX Stout and thinking it was a value. Yes, I am old! I used to have to chew rocks while walking uphill to AND from school. Perhaps I will try happy hour and find Rockefellers is a place that warrants my dollars. However, under no circumstances would I recommend that anyone follow the path I chose on my fateful visit last week.

We came here in a rather large group that took up most of the restaurant, which probably slowed down the service. In general though, the waitresses are really courteous & I'm sure they only misplaced our oysters because there were so many orders flying around. The happy hour deals are definitely worth it--45 cent oysters on the half shell--doesn't get better than that! Although I do have to say that you should be wary of some of their cocktails, as they were pretty watered down & bland when we got them =/ Even if you're not a huge fan of oysters, there are plenty of other delicious choices, though I must warn you that regular entrees (& even appetizers) run on the pricey side. I discovered that the mussels, crayfish & lobster that you can order by the 1/2 lb or the whole lb, with your choice of a wine&garlic herb butter sauce, old bay seasoning or marinara sauce probably gives you the most food at the best price. I recommend getting the mussles & lobster in the garlic & butter sauce and you can add angel hair pasta to your dish for only $1.99 extra! I would not recommend the crayfish as much, especially since they're more work than they're worth and the meat of the crayfish tend to be really tough because they have to cook the thick-shelled critters for so long. My mussels and pasta totaled to around $14 including gratuity and tax, which is just as much as some of the unhealthy fried foods & the overly dry crab cakes that they serve. Other suggestions include: the crab dip & hush puppies (surprise)!

We always go to Rockefeller's when we are in Myrtle Beach. Usually we sit at the bar and have a great time talking with the bartenders and the interesting crowd. They have the best steamed shellfish on the Grand Strand as far as I am concerned. Their Happy Hour is great with $3.00 drinks and 45 cent oysters. Their bar seats are very comfortable for a big guy like me. My wife, who is not a bar person, loves to go too. That really says something about the place. Their mussels are superior as are their oysters and shrimp. Their pasta dishes and sauces are very traditional and are excellent. They know what they are doing and their staff is just great. It feels like a neighborhood bar. My favorite place in MB.

We happened along here because we weren't going to make happy hour somewhere else. We came during happy hour(only one waitress during happy hour ) the bartender was no help). Iit wasn;t until we left that another waitress came along. The service was slow, the oysters were SMALL, and we could have gone somewhere else and had a better meal. It is OK, but nothing spectacular.
